Upload a clear face photo. CatfishSpotter compares it with publicly indexed images and, with one credit, links you to the source pages. A different photo, a crop, or a filter can still meet another public picture of that face. A match is a page to read, not a name.

How a face search works
An exact image search looks for the same file. A reverse face search keeps looking for the face, including edited, cropped, and filtered photos, as long as the face is clear and the other picture is already public.
01
Upload a face photo
A selfie, profile picture, crop, or dating screenshot. The browser checks that a face is visible before the search continues.
JPG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10 MB
One clear face works best
If several faces are in the photo, you pick which one to search
02
Compare it with public images
The search looks for a similar face on publicly indexed pages. It does not log into apps, and it does not need a name.
A different photo of a similar face can still match
Crops, filters, and screenshots can still match
A locked account with no public copy will not appear
03
Read the source pages
One credit opens the pages where a similar face appears. You compare the names, photos, and dates yourself.
Each result is a source link
There is no identity certificate and no risk score
No match is not proof the person is real
Search by face when you do not have a name
You often have one photograph and nothing else: no verified name, no username, no phone number. The photo is the query. If a similar face is already on a public page, the result is a link to that page, where any name or handle is whatever the page already shows.
A screenshot can be enough when the face is clear
Usernames appear only if they are already on the source page
Lookalikes happen, so read the page before you decide
Cropped, filtered, and edited photos
Profile pictures are rarely the original file. They are crops, screenshots, beauty filters, and recompressed copies. A face search can still compare that face with another public photo. A blurry crop, a face turned away, or a heavy cartoon filter gives it less to work with.
Front-facing, evenly lit, one person
Eyes, nose, and mouth visible
Sunglasses, masks, and tiny crops are weak uploads
Why a search can come back empty
No result is common. The photo may be new, the account may be private, or the face may have been generated and never posted. None of those outcomes proves the profile is genuine, and a match does not prove anyone is a scammer.
The free AI check is separate
A generated face often has no public history, so a face search can return nothing. The AI image check scores whether the picture looks generated. It does not search the web, and a score is not proof. Use it alongside the face search, not instead of reading a source page.
Face search and exact image search
Tools built to find the same file stop when the crop, filter, or photo changes. A face search is for the person in the picture.

Is a reverse face search free?+
You can upload a photo and run the free AI image check with no credit. The face search that returns source pages uses one credit. Packs are one-time payments. Nothing renews.
What happens to the photo?+
CatfishSpotter does not keep a copy. The report stays in this browser until you delete it.
Will the person know I searched?+
No. CatfishSpotter does not contact the person in the photo.
Can a match confirm who someone is?+
No. It shows public pages where a similar face appears. People can look alike, and a stolen photo is often of someone who is not messaging you.
What if there are no results?+
Try a clearer, front-facing photo. If a clear photo still returns nothing, that face may simply not be on a public indexed page. That is not proof the profile is real.
