SUSPICIOUS PROFILE PHOTOS

Scammer photo search.
Look before you send anything.

A scammer photo search checks a suspicious profile picture against publicly indexed images. A reused photo, a different name on another page, or a face with no public history are reasons to slow down. They are not a risk score, and they are not proof of a crime.

How to check a suspicious photo

The photo can show you other public pages. The conversation shows you the behavior. You need both, and neither one assigns a scam label.

01

Upload the photo they sent

Use the clearest picture of one face. A screenshot is fine. Pick the face if there are several.

  • Profile photos and chat screenshots
  • The browser confirms a face is visible
  • The photo is not stored
02

See where that face is public

One credit returns source pages when a similar face has been indexed. Read the names and the other photos on those pages.

  • Another name is a reason to pause
  • A portfolio or public account may explain the photo
  • No page does not clear the person
03

Judge the request, not a score

CatfishSpotter does not mark a result clean, suspicious, or high-risk. A demand for money, gift cards, or crypto is in the messages.

  • Ask for a live video call
  • Do not harass the person in the photo
  • Report the account to the platform if you were asked for money

Clues that live on the source pages

What you can look for yourself: the same face on several public pages under different names, a photo that belongs to a public account whose details do not match the story, or a picture that the free AI check scores as generated. The search does not read those pages for you, and it does not check a criminal record.

  • Conflicting names on public pages
  • A story that does not match the source
  • A generated-looking photo with no public history

What the photo cannot show

A broken-camera excuse, a move to another chat app, and a request for money are not in the image. Use the photo search for the picture. Use the messages, and a live video call, for the behavior.

Do not harass the person in the photo

The face in a stolen picture is often an innocent person. Use the source pages to understand the photo. Do not contact, threaten, or expose that person. If money already moved, contact your bank as well as the platform.

A photo clue and a scam verdict

CatfishSpotter shows public pages. It does not score the person, read their messages, or check a criminal database.

What this search can show

  • Find public pages that show a similar face
  • Compare the story you were told with what a source page says
  • Check whether the image looks generated, for free

What it will not do

  • Prove criminal intent or run a background check
  • See private messages, bank records, or phone records
  • Assign a scam score. That judgment stays with you
Can a photo search prove someone is a scammer?+

No. It shows where a similar face appears on public pages. Fraud is about the conversation and any request for money, not a similarity score.

What if the photo is AI-generated?+

A brand-new generated face often has no public history, so a face search can return nothing. Use the free AI image check as well. No match plus a generated-looking picture is a reason to be careful. It is still not proof.

What should I do with a match?+

Read the source page. Ask for a live video call. Do not send money. Do not contact the person whose photo may have been stolen.
