A face on a second public page is a clue. It can be a stolen photo, the same person, or a lookalike. The page is what you read. The score is not a verdict.
The result people hope for is a clear answer. What a face search actually returns is a public page where a similar face appears. Sometimes the name matches. Sometimes it does not. Both outcomes need the same next step: read the page before you decide who you are talking to.
Three ordinary explanations
The photo was reused. A dating profile is using a picture that already lives on a public account, a portfolio, or an older post. The name in the chat and the name on the page disagree. That is a reason to stop trusting the profile. It is not a reason to blame the person in the picture. In a stolen-photo case, that person is usually uninvolved.
It is the same person. People post the same face under a nickname, a professional name, or an old account. A second page can confirm a story rather than break it. Compare the city, the dates, and the other photos before you treat it as a deception.
It is a lookalike. A similarity score describes the search, not a court. Two people can share a jawline and an eye shape. If the source page is obviously someone else, and the rest of the profile is consistent, say so to yourself and move on. Do not build an accusation out of a resemblance.
A practical order
Open the source. Do not stop at the thumbnail.
Write down the name, the date, and where the page says the person is.
Compare that with what you were told, including the other photos on both sides.
If the picture was stolen, do not contact the person it shows.
If you were asked for money, report the account to the platform. If money already moved, contact your bank.

What the match will not settle
It will not tell you who copied a photo, or why. It will not see a private chat, a locked account, or a picture that was never posted. It will not assign a scam label. CatfishSpotter shows the page. The conversation shows the behavior. You need both.
A generated face is the case with no page to find. The free AI check looks at the file and returns a score. No public match, plus a picture that scores as generated, is a reason to be careful. It is still not proof, because a private person can also have no public photos.
If the photo is yours
You can search a clear portrait of yourself. You will only see public indexed pages, and only when a similar face is on them. Save the links if you need to report an impersonation page to the site that hosts it. A copy that lives only in a private chat will not appear.
